The government’s ongoing war with piracy is something that had begun several years ago. It takes no historical expert nor war genius to say that despite all of its efforts, the government is now on the losing end because it has been fighting for too long with no effective way of replenishing its supplies or boosting its lines, in this war, the government has no allies.
To win over piracy, the government needs all the help it can get. The biggest and most powerful ally would be the entertainment business itself. The losses and devastation that piracy unleashes upon the industry is undeniable and the producers and artists would definitely be more than happy to be on the government’s side on this battle. However, in order for the two big wigs to work harmoniously, one simple thing needs to be considered by the government- the clear cut issue called TAX.
The best ammunition to win over piracy is for the original goods to be sold at more affordable prices, one that boasts of the best quality yet still tries to approach the dirt cheap price tag on fake copies. In order for this be possible, the producers would need to cut back on their prices and the government has to reach out an understanding hand and give the industry its needed boost by lowering the taxes for most of their operations and relevant personnel.
Another way to win over piracy is plain old ingenuity. Record companies should find more effective ways of protecting the content of their CD’s to keep them off the download sites, they should also add in more enticing extras to their discs to encourage the customers to buy the original.
The government needs to put up information drives and to use the well-loved faces of celebrities to send out the bad news called piracy.
